Have you ever loved a book cover so much that you had to get it - forget what's within, it was the cover that sold you on the book.
I've had a few experiences with those thoughts, and some of them have brought me to amazing worlds, while others were big disappointments.
Today I'm walking you through my TOP 3 books I bought - or wanted too, mainly because of the cover.
1. All the Wind in the World by Samantha Mabry
Synopsis:
Sarah Jacqueline Crow and James Holt work in the vast maguey fields that span the bone-dry Southwest, a thirsty, infinite land that is both seductive and fearsome. In this rough, transient landscape, Sarah Jac and James have fallen in love. They’re tough and brave, and they have big dreams. Soon they will save up enough money to go east. But until then, they keep their heads down, their muscles tensed, and above all, their love secret.
When a horrible accident forces Sarah Jac and James to start over on a new, possibly cursed ranch called the Real Marvelous, the delicate balance they’ve found begins to give way. And James and Sarah Jac will have to pay a frighteningly high price for their love.
Unfortunately, the characters were lacking dept but they were also very inconsitent.
2. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Synopsis:
They killed my mother.
They took our magic.
They tried to bury us.
Now we rise.
Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.
But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.
Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.
Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers and her growing feelings for an enemy.
And let me tell you, while the plot on this book is amazing, the characters are horrible, just horrible.
3. The Library of Fates by Aditi Khorona
Synopsis:
No one is entirely certain what brings the Emperor Sikander to Shalingar. Until now, the idyllic kingdom has been immune to his many violent conquests. To keep the visit friendly, Princess Amrita has offered herself as his bride, sacrificing everything—family, her childhood love, and her freedom—to save her people. But her offer isn't enough.
The unthinkable happens, and Amrita finds herself a fugitive, utterly alone but for an oracle named Thala, who was kept by Sikander as a slave and managed to escape amid the chaos of a palace under siege. With nothing and no one else to turn to, Amrita and Thala are forced to rely on each other. But while Amrita feels responsible for her kingdom and sets out to warn her people, the newly free Thala has no such ties. She encourages Amrita to go on a quest to find the fabled Library of All Things, where it is possible for each of them to reverse their fates. To go back to before Sikander took everything from them.
Stripped of all that she loves, caught between her rosy past and an unknown future, will Amrita be able to restore what was lost, or does another life—and another love—await?
Once again, I wanted to read this book because the cover is amazing (and the synopsis compelling), but then the plot was confusing, things were underexplained... it was an overall mess.
Now that I'm looking back, the three books I choose were all disapointments... If you liked these ''series'', maybe in the next one, I'll tell about books I actually liked ;p Let me know in the comments if that's something you want!
These covers are gorgeous! I'm sorry they were all disappointments.
ResponderEliminarNa minha lista do bookdepository já está o Children of blood and bone à minha espera!
ResponderEliminarNunca compro livros só pela capa, mas o All the Wind in the World tem realmente uma capa muito apelativa. O Children of Blood and Bone tem uma premissa extremamente interessante, sei que o pessoal adora a capa, mas não a acho nada por aí além...
